FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is my contribution tax deductible?
A: Dolls for Daughters is a 501(c)(3) organization so the answer is YES! Whether you contribute money or dolls, you can take a deduction on your tax return. The IRS does have a few rules that must be followed and the responsibility lies with you, the donor.
1. A donor must have a bank record or written communication from a charity for any monetary contribution before the donor can claim a charitable contribution on his/her federal income tax return.
2. A donor is responsible for obtaining a written acknowledgment from a charity for any single contribution of $250 or more before the donor can claim a charitable contribution on his/her federal income tax return.
The IRS says this responsibility lies with the donor but Dolls for Daughters is here to help! We will provide a written receipt for all monetary contributions so you can claim the deduction. If you donate through paypal online, a receipt is automatically generated.
If you are donating dolls under $250 in value, you can go ahead and claim the deduction on your tax return. We recommend you keep the receipt from the store where you purchased the dolls just in case you are audited in the future. If you are donating dolls over $250 in value, you will need a receipt from us. If this is the case, be sure to contact our Treasurer, Emily Vera so she can verify your donation and provide you the proper receipt.
